About

The BioWISE (Bio – Women in STEM Empowered) Internship and Scholarship Program is a flagship initiative of the Bengaluru Science and Technology Cluster (BeST Cluster), implemented in collaboration with the Biocon Foundation and the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS). The program aims to strengthen women’s participation in STEM by providing research exposure, mentorship, networking opportunities, scholarship support, and professional development.

The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and workforce readiness, particularly for women students from Tier-2 and Tier-3 institutions across Karnataka. Participants gain hands-on experience in academic research and industry environments in Bengaluru.

Eligibility

Undergraduate (UG) Cohort

  • Female students in Life Sciences disciplines
  • Final-year UG students or those who completed UG within the last year and are not currently enrolled in another academic program
  • Minimum 75% marks or equivalent academic performance
  • Family annual income generally below ₹6 lakh
  • Students from Tier-2 and Tier-3 colleges/universities in Karnataka
  • Demonstrated interest in applied research
  • First-generation learners will be given preference

  • B.Sc.
  • B.Tech. (Life Sciences)
  • Biotechnology
  • Microbiology
  • Biochemistry
  • Genetics
  • Allied Life Science disciplines

Postgraduate (PG) Cohort

  • Female postgraduate students in Life Sciences disciplines
  • Relevant Master’s degree students such as:
    • M.Sc.
    • M.Tech.
    • Biotechnology
    • Life Sciences
    • Microbiology
    • Bioinformatics
    • Allied disciplines
