About
The ASM Microbiology Educator Exchange is a 13-week collaborative professional development program organized by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). The program brings together microbiology educators in facilitated online learning communities where participants share teaching experiences, exchange ideas, collaborate on practical educational resources, and strengthen evidence-based teaching practices.
The Fall 2026 cohort focuses on Classroom Assessment, allowing participants to explore topics such as:
- Alternative grading approaches
- Concept inventories
- Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in assessment
- Assessment of Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs)
- Case study teaching strategies
The program includes:
- Virtual kickoff session
- Six facilitated biweekly small-group meetings
- Final showcase session
- Certificate of completion for participants who successfully complete all program requirements
Participants also gain opportunities to expand their professional network, exchange innovative teaching strategies, and develop classroom-ready educational resources. For the Fall 2026 cohort, registration is free for ASM members.
Eligibility
Applicants should be:
- Faculty members at any career stage involved in undergraduate microbiology education.
- Postdoctoral researchers interested in undergraduate teaching careers.
- Current members of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
