Senior Research Assistant – ATREE (Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment)

About

The Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is inviting applications for the position of Senior Research Assistant under a lake restoration project within its Water and Society Programme. The project seeks to understand why lake restoration efforts often fall short and aims to develop a comprehensive framework linking water quality, hydrology, biodiversity, ecosystem multifunctionality, and social-economic dimensions of lake health. The selected candidate will contribute to biodiversity restoration initiatives, field coordination, plantation management, and ecological monitoring activities. The position is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The appointment is initially for one year, subject to satisfactory performance, with a probation period of two months. Salaries are competitive and comparable to those offered by leading academic institutions in India.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
    • Botany
    • Environmental Science
    • Ecology
    • Forestry
    • Horticulture
    • Related disciplines

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in:
    • Plantation programmes
    • Nursery management
    • Field-based restoration projects
  • Knowledge of native plant species and biodiversity restoration.
  • Experience in field team management and coordination.
  • Ability to coordinate with nurseries, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commitment to environmental conservation and community-based restoration initiatives.
