About
Illustrae is a web-based scientific illustration platform designed to help researchers, scientists, educators and students create professional scientific figures, graphical abstracts, academic posters and presentation visuals.
The platform combines AI-generated scientific elements with an interactive canvas, allowing users to create visuals from text descriptions, sketches or uploaded photos and then arrange and refine them within the canvas.
Illustrae can be used for a wide range of research and educational visuals, including:
- Scientific figures
- Graphical abstracts
- Research workflows
- Biological and anatomical illustrations
- Molecule and protein visualizations
- Scientific diagrams
- Academic posters
- Presentation slides
- Educational illustrations
- Laboratory equipment illustrations
Its Intelligent Canvas provides tools for arranging and organizing scientific elements, including frames, arrows, text boxes, alignment tools, grids and guides. Users can also generate custom scientific elements through text prompts and modify generated images using natural-language instructions.
Illustrae also supports different visual styles, including classic scientific illustration, modern diagrammatic representations and hyper-realistic textbook-style visuals.
For researchers preparing manuscripts, posters or presentations, the platform offers high-resolution PNG exports, while SVG export is available for certain diagrams and elements that do not use Illustrae-generated images.
The company states that users have rights to use the images they create in research publications, presentations and educational materials, while also noting that journal and institutional policies regarding AI-assisted figures can vary. Users should therefore check the requirements of the relevant journal or institution before submission.
